Ricky Ponting Scores 11000 runs in Test Cricket
Ricky Ponting completed 11000 runs in test match cricket during the first test match againt England in the ongoing Ashes series 2009. He became the fourth player to have scored 11000 runs or more in test matches. He is now behind the leader Sachin Tendulkar, and the two retired greats Brian Lara and Allan Border.
The list of players with more than 11000 runs is as follows:
1. Sachin Tendulkar - 12773 runs from 159 matches
2. Brian Lara - 11953 runs from 131 matches
3. Allan Border - 11174 runs from 156 matches
4. Ricky Ponting - 11110 runs from 132 matches.
The race is really on between Sachin Tendulkar and Ricky Ponting. The gap is just 1663 runs between the two batsmen. With Ricky Ponting currently playing The Ashes series and Sachin Tendulkar not playing any test series immediately, the pressure will be on Sachin to keep the record intact.
